Andrews Sill
Andrews Sill, acclaimed as a “gifted young conductor” with a “commanding presence,” is also Music Director of the Sheboygan Symphony and the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. He recently completed a highly successful tenure as Music Director of the Lubbock Symphony in west Texas, where his genuine rapport with audiences, engaging programming, and energetic style on the podium earned him local and national attention. He held the posts of Associate Conductor and Assistant Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2001 and was the Associate Conductor of the Virginia Symphony from 1994 to 1996. He is a frequent guest conductor for the New York City Ballet.
Active as a concert pianist, Andrews Sill is one of the few artists who perform concertos leading the orchestra from the keyboard. Previous concerto recitals include the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of New England, Florida Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.
Andrews Sill earned his bachelors degree with honors from Yale University, and his doctorate degree from Manhattan School of Music. Among the teachers with whom he has studied are Ward Davenny, Constance Keene, Richard Goode, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Claude Frank, and John Browning.
Andrews Sill joined PianoArts as an advisor during his first year with the MSO in 1997. His present duties as Music Director include program planning, training PianoArtists-in-Residence for their presentations, serving as master of ceremonies and conductor of the orchestra and soloists for the competition finals, providing contestants with guidance on collaborative performances, presenting workshops on performing concertos, overseeing the development of the competition repertory, and participating in the selection of the competition jury. |
